Auckland Green MP Keith Locke will tonight mark the final running of the Hamilton Connection rail service between Auckland and Hamilton with a presentation to the crew of the service and a small ceremony.
Keith will ride the last running of the Hamilton Connection this evening leaving the Auckland Rail Station at 5.35pm and arriving at the Frankton Rail Station in Hamilton at 7.27pm.
Keith will deliver a bouquet of flowers and some gifts to the crew of the service before the train leaves Auckland and the Waikato Greens are arranging a small ceremony to mark the end of an era at the Hamilton Station.
“We don’t see this as the end of the line — we are pushing for the Government to take back the track from TranzRail and facilitate the resurrection of this Hamilton — Auckland commuter service,” said Mr Locke.
“Rail is just as important a strategic asset as Air New Zealand. If it is good enough to save air passenger services then the Government also has a responsibility to ensure the viability of rail passenger services in New Zealand.”
