“The German Greens are out of kilter with Greens around the world, who have favoured peaceful alternatives to NATO’s campaign,” said Green Party Foreign Affairs spokesperson Keith Locke.
“The 30-member European Federation of Green Parties has been strongly against the bombing. Green parties in Australia, America and Canada have also issued anti-war statements.
“The New Zealand Green Party sent a message to the German Green conference. We said that ‘NATO’s air bombardment has proved disastrous, particularly for the ethnic Albanians. The bombing has dramatically speeded up the ethnic cleansing’ and marginalised the democratic opposition in Serbia.
“One positive thing coming from the German Green conference was a proposal for a halt in the bombing. That would allow negotiations for a peaceful settlement to be progressed,” said Mr Locke.
