Greens Demand Shipley Dissociate NZ From US Raid

Green Party Foreign Affairs spokesperson Keith Locke has demanded that the Prime Minister dissociate New Zealand from the US and British air raid on Iraq.

“The raid is an outrageous unilateral action, overriding efforts by UN Security Council members to peacefully resolve the situation,” said Mr Locke.

“President Clinton is cynically sacrificing innocent Iraqi lives to save his own skin in the US Congress,” Keith Locke said in reference to the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton.

“New Zealand must distance itself from this totally unnecessary assault on Iraq, which will lead to many civilian casualties. “The Green Party calls upon Prime Minister Jenny Shipley to dissociate New Zealand from the strike, and withdraw the cooperation of New Zealand’s armed forces from any US military action against Iraq,” said Mr Locke.
