Green Party deplores NATO attacks on power and water

The Green Party says it is deplorable that NATO fighters are now attacking essential civilian services such as power and water supplies.

“These are clearly non-military targets, banned under international law,” said Green Party Foreign Affairs spokesperson Keith Locke.

“The people who will suffer from lack of water and electricity will be ordinary Serbians. Cutting off power poses grave dangers in hospitals, and lack of running water opens the way for a spread of disease.

“NATO says it is trying to stop Serbian attacks on Kosovars of Albanian descent. Surely, it is morally inconsistent to achieve this by attacking essential services of the Serbian people, and causing great hardship.

“New Zealand should promote negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the Kosovo crisis,” said Mr Locke.
